Today every country is becoming stronger in modern way, so it has become necessary for every country to take important steps for the security of its country, in which the Air Force is the biggest contributor today. The Indian Air Force has handled the security responsibility of about 24000 km of international border in India. Whenever there has been a crisis on the border of India, the Indian Air Force has been seen as a troubleshooter.
The Indian Air Force was established on October 8, 1932 and Air Marshal Subroto Mukherjee took over as the first Chief of the Air Staff on April 1, 1954. The Indian Air Force gradually went on to strengthen its position and there came a time when due to the Indian Air Force, India was afraid of attacking any other country in the country’s border. The newest of the Indian Armed Forces is that of the Indian Air Force. The Indian Air Force Bill was passed on October 8, 1932. The first air squad was formed on April 1, 1933, which became part of a number squadron.

Before independence, the Air Force was controlled by the Army. The credit for ‘liberating’ the Air Force from the Army goes to the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Air Force, Air Marshal Sir Thomas W. Elmhurst. 1. World War II: Japanese army stopped in Thailand
In World War II, when the Japanese army was moving towards Burma, it was stopped by the Indian Air Force. For this, the Indian Air Force had killed the Japanese forces present at Arakan, Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai bases in Thailand. The Indian Air Force was helping the British and American forces in this war. The hero of this war was Flight Lieutenant Arjan Singh. Who later became Marshal of the Air Force.
2. 1947: When the country became independent, the Air Force engaged in relief work
With the independence of the country, India and Pakistan separated. The Air Force was also divided into two parts. At the same time, the monarchy of Jammu and Kashmir was attacked by tribal assailants. These tribal attackers had the support of Pakistan. An undeclared war was going on between the two countries. When the Kashmiri people got trapped, the Indian Air Force helped in their evacuation.
3. 1960-61: Founded peace in Congo, gave independence to Goa
Belgium’s rule over the Congo came to an end in 1960. After this there was violence and rebellion throughout the Congo. To stop this, the Indian Air Force sent five squadrons to the Congo so that peace could be maintained. Subsequently, in 1961 the Portuguese rule did not want to leave Goa. Then the Indian Air Force launched Operation Vijay. The Indian Air Force defeated the Portuguese army and got Goa independence and united it with India.
4. 1965: Destroyed Pakistani forces
After 1947, the Pakistani army dared to attack for the second time to capture Jammu and Kashmir. But he had to face it. The Indian Air Force not only shot down its fighter jets, but also destroyed several military bases. The Indian Air Force also suffered a lot, but our brave soldiers blew up Pakistan.
5. 1971: Surrendered to Pakistan Army for the independence of Bangladesh
49 years ago, 93,000 members of the Pakistani Army raised white flags and surrendered to the Indian Army and Mukti Bahini, ending the Indo-Pak War of 1971. This conflict was the result of Bangladesh’s War of Independence, when Bangladesh (then East Pakistan) was fighting for independence from Pakistan (West).
The Indian Air Force played an important role in the liberation of Bangladesh from Pakistan. Indian Air Force planes made more than 12 thousand flights over Bangladesh. Pakistan had attacked India here through Rajasthan, Gujarat and Jammu and Kashmir. The battle of Longewala took place. Indian Air Force shot down 94 Pakistani aircraft in this fight.
6. 1984: Operation Meghdoot – When India captured Siachen
With the help of the Indian Air Force, the Indian Army launched Operation Meghdoot on 13 April 1984 and attacked Siachen. After this, the entire Siachen Glacier came under the control of India. The advantage was that India had an area of about 3000 sq km in this strategic area.
7. 1987: Operation Poomalai was launched during the Civil War in Sri Lanka
The civil war was going on in Sri Lanka due to Tamil rebels. The Sri Lankan government sought help from India. After this, the Indian Air Force launched Operation Poomalai. So that the people troubled by the rebellion can get relief and help. In the same year, Operation Pawan was launched so that one lakh Sri Lankan security forces could be evacuated from the struggling northern and eastern Sri Lanka. For this, Indian Air Force aircraft had made 70 thousand flights.
8. 1988: Prevented the attack on Maldives, established peace
On 3 November 1988, the Indian Air Force landed four Mirage fighter jets and Il-76 from Agra in Male, the capital of Maldives. Because President Gayoom asked for help that his country was occupied by armed criminals. They want to attack Male. To stop this, paratroopers of the Indian Air Force secured Male airport and killed the attackers. The name of this mission was – Operation Cactus.
9. 1999: Operation Safed Sagar in Kargil War
The Indian Army had sought help from the Air Force in the Kargil war. The IAF launched an attack on the Kargil peaks with helicopters and fighter jets. But our two fighter jets and one helicopter were destroyed in the missile attack. After this the Indian Air Force changed the strategy. Miraj made by Rafale maker Dassault and Russian fighter jet MiG-29 launched attacks on Pakistani infiltrators. During the entire Kargil war, the Air Force planes made about 40 flights every day. The Indian Army finally won on 26 July.
10. 2019: Demolition of terrorist camps in Balakot
Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist organization carried out a suicide attack in Pulwama on 14 February 2019. 46 CRPF personnel were martyred. After this, within 15 days, the Indian Air Force destroyed the terrorist camps of Pakistan by attacking 12 Mirage-2000 fighter planes in Balakot, Chakothi, Muzaffarabad of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK).
11. When Abhinandan shot down Pakistan’s F-16 with a MiG-21
On 27 February 2019, the Indian Air Force saw F-16 and JF-17 fighter jets of Pakistani Air Force crossing the Indian border. They were immediately chased by Sukhoi-30MKI and MiG-21 of the Indian Air Force. Wing Commander Abhinandan was flying the MiG-21. He shot down an F-16 with a missile fitted with a MiG-21.
